Whenever someone comes to me for guidance, I start by asking them the same two questions. “Do you know you have a spirit?” Do you know it is always trying to communicate with you?”
I ask these specific questions because I think everyone should know they have access to their own spirit and it’s wisdom every day, all the time. Anytime you have acted or sensed, not from thought, but from an inner knowing, you have tapped into your own spirit.
When I was twenty years old, I moved crossed country alone, from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, to Jasper, Alberta with a backpack and a resume. I had no idea where I was headed or what would happen but something inside me said, “Go!”
As a resident of Jasper for thirty two years now, I know it was my spirit that nudged me to this magical mountain town. It wasn’t a thoughtful decision; it was a spiritual one. I don’t think it was a coincidence that I began to discover the mountains at the same pace and time as I was finding my spirit.
Spiritual exploration is a lot like learning how to navigate mountain trails. The paths of these terrains are both so vast; it can sometimes seem intimidating. There are so many to choose from starting out, that you can get lost on your own. It was only through word of mouth and the generosity of guidance that I began to know these enlightening and often hidden beauties. This shared knowledge gave me the confidence to continue searching for my own private vistas. Each time I was introduced to a new path by someone, it gave me the opportunity to return again, at my own time and pace. Until eventually, I became my own guide.
I wish the same for you on your spiritual journey. The only thing that is more fulfilling than discovering a new path on your own, is returning to share it with someone else for the first time.
